(Aug 24) The Beijing Olympic Games are "truly exceptional Games," said International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge at the Games' closing ceremony staged in the National Stadium (Bird’s Nest) in northern Beijing on Sunday night.

The Chinese delegation dazzled the world with a total of 100 Olympic medals including 51 golds. Chinese people, teeming with enthusiasm, have honored the commitments they solemnly made 7 years ago, to host a high-standard Olympic Games with distinctive characteristics. China has realized the concepts of "Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics and People's Olympics", and has opened itself further to the world.
The many years of preparation for the Olympic Games have paid off, said Jacques Rogge at the Main Press Center located in China National Convention Center (CNCC). He was impressed by the organizing committee’s efforts, pointing out the splendid Olympic Village and the high quality competition venues.
This is part of the tangible legacy left behind by the Olympic Games in China. In terms of intangible legacy, with the Olympic Games a wild success, China has realized that its citizens are hugely enthusiastic about sports and more investment in this arena will follow the Games. Through the Olympic Games, China has opened up to the world. The world has learned a lot about China and China has learned a lot about the world, Rogge added.
The 16-day sport event has brought enormous joy and enthusiasm to the humanity, and has won glory for both the host city Beijing and the Olympics.
CNCC has been proudly serving the Olympics as the Main Press Center (MPC), International Broadcast Center (IBC), site for fencing and Modern Pentathlon (shooting and fencing). CNCC Grand Hotel, a newly built 4 star hotel is one of the only two for accredited journalists located in the heart of the Olympic Green. All efforts CNCC has made have paid off and CNCC has won glory, too.
CNCC will continue to serve the Paralympic Games which will officially kick off on September 6 and end on September 17. Again CNCC will be the MPC, IBC and site for wheelchair fencing as well as boccia.
After Paralympics, the Olympic Green where three major exciting Olympic venues the Bird’s Nest, Water Cube and CNCC will be hosting world-class events.
